As the ClimateSmartAdvisors project also focuses on the adoption of climate-smart farming practices, the Lithuanian Community of Practice (CoP) on “Climate change” was established with a focus on GHG emissions and climate change. CoP members identified that one of the challenges of adopting climate-smart farming practices was the lack of knowledge among advisors and farmers about innovative solutions. In response, a training programme and training sessions on GHG emissions and carbon farming were developed.
The topics of GHG emissions and carbon farming are of high interest to both agricultural advisors and farmers, as carbon farming is still a relatively new practice in agriculture and requires new knowledge, particularly among advisors. Agricultural advisors from LAAS were selected as the target group for the training, as they play a key role in transferring knowledge to farmers. The training is expected to strengthen the role of advisors in the transition to climate-smart farming.
The training provides information on GHG emissions, tools for calculating GHG emissions, and recommendations on how to prepare farm-level plans for reducing emissions. A tool for calculation of GHG emissions is being developed in Lithuania therefore, tools offered to be used in CFD project were presented and used in the practical part of the training (i.e. Farm Carbon Calculator and Cap’2er). The training on GHG emissions and carbon farming offers an effective way to prepare agricultural advisors in a relatively short time to provide climate-smart advice, as they focus on key aspects of climate-smart farming and demonstrate how to use specific tools for calculating farm-level GHG emissions based on real farm data. The training is delivered in person. Advisors gain new knowledge that can be directly applied in their advisory work, while farmers receive new knowledge and are introduced to innovative solutions.
Pastaruoju metu aktualiausios konsultacijų temos žemdirbiams yra ŠESD emisijos ir anglies ūkininkavimas. Atsižvelgiant į šių temų aktualumą tiek žemdirbiams, tiek konsultacijas teikiantiems žemės ūkio konsultantams, buvo nuspręsta parengti mokymų programą ir organizuoti konsultantams mokymus, kad jie galėtų žemdirbiams teikti konstruktyvias ir praktiškas konsultacijas apie ŠESD emisijas ir anglies ūkininkavimą. Mokymų programą LŽŪKT konsultantams parengė LŽŪKT specialistai, kadangi jie geriausiai žino savo konsultantų poreikius.
Mokymus sudaro teorinė ir praktinė dalys. Mokymų metu pateikiama informacija apie ŠESD emisijų susidarymo priežastis, emisijoms apskaičiuoti naudojamus įrankius, pateikiamos rekomendacijos, kaip parengti ŠESD emisijų sumažinimo ūkiuose planus. Siekiant didžiausio mokymų efektyvumo, mokymai organizuojami ne didesnei nei 10 konsultantų grupei.
Mokymų programos parengimas ir mokymų organizavimas yra efektyvus būdas per trumpą laiką paruošti konsultantus teikti žemdirbiams konsultacijas tvaraus ūkininkavimo klausimais.
Mokymų metu įgytas žinias konsultantai taiko konsultuodami žemdirbius. Kadangi mokymų programą parengė LŽŪKT specialistai, LŽŪKT konsultantai gali susisiekti su mūsų specialistais bet kuriuo metu, jei jiems kyla klausimų.
