Thematic Areas

Soil Health and BiodiversityHerd ManagementGrassland Management

Description

Holistic management is a branch of pastoralism which helps land managers, livestock farmers, environmentalists, and policymakers to develop strategies for regenerating degraded landscapes and give a responsible use of grasslands.

Our misión with this CoP is to learn and train ourselves on holistic livestock management concepts, which can be useful for implementing measures related to mitigating climate change on farms and in communal public pastures. Focusing on the concepts that are easiest to implement and have the greatest impact on climate change mitigation.

At the end of this CoP, we would like to have the technical knowledge to advise livestock farmers on how to apply these concepts.

Objectives

  • Gain a deeper understanding of climate-friendly pastoralism practices and holistic livestock management
  • Identify environmentally friendly livestock grazing practices currently used on traditional farms and propose new practices that could be implemented to improve the extensive grazing systems
  • Choose the holistic management concepts that can have the greatest impact on climate change mitigation related to grassland management
  • Develop an easy-to-follow guide of holistic management concepts (easy to apply) related to the mitigation of climate change
