This CoP aims to link researchers, tool developers and practitioners to improve the usability of carbon balance tools in holistic and organic farming systems. The focus lies on the integration of environmental co-benefits, such as biodiversity.
Existing tools shall be screened for best practice examples, research gaps (such as carbon fluxes in soils) shall be identified, and ranked by priority according to farmers and advisors needs. The CoP aims to develop a feedback loop from tool users to tool developers to speed up the process of a user-friendly and informative carbon balance tool in agriculture.
•Understand differences and similarities of popular carbon balance tools in Germany, as well as EU
•Define quality criteria for tools from an advisor’s perspective
•Discuss opportunities and limitations for co-benefits and their representation within the tools
•Discuss research gaps and develop recommendations for research institutions and researchers on the topic
•Connect to relevant institutions and researchers and provide support/guidance for improved tools and relevant research projects
•Enable CoP-Members to find and select a suitable tool for their respective project/ use case
•Develop a recommendations list for researchers with research gaps identified by practitioners
