Description

The CoP promotes efficient management of sheep and goat farming to protect the environment, the land, and animal welfare. And allow farms to adapt to the new climatic reality.

The CoP aims to research and demonstrate actions that enable proper and sustainable phosphorus management on pig farms, from pig feed and manure treatment to the application of livestock effluents in the field.

Objectives

Prepare the framework for the small ruminant and pig sector’s adaptation to climate change.

To stay up-to-date on climate-smart practices suitable for small ruminant and pig farming.

To assess technical-economic, environmental, and ecosystem service efficiency indices in small ruminants.

To define sustainable management and operations models for sheep and goat farming in mountainous areas.

To learn about balanced diets for pigs, but with a reduced phosphorus content, and to limit phosphorus excretion in manure.

To acquire knowledge to perform a livestock P balance on pig farms.
