Climate change has impacted the consistency and intensity of rainfall within the Iberian Peninsula. One means of management is the provision of water by irrigation. Within Portugal, irrigated almond orchards have increased by over 300% in the past ten years. Considering that water applications are one of the fundamental drivers of yield, improved application timings will be required to mitigate climate change and improve farm resilience. By using a group of experts, this CoP will identify solutions to various challenges faced by almond farmers.
1. Identify the relative research and develop better management practices for water applications in Portugal’s almond farms;
2. Determine the appropriate strategies to mitigate water limitations and shortfalls associated with climate change;
3. Develop a list of practices to improve on-farm water use efficiency;
4. Develop relative information to distribute through a variety of presentations and publications;
5. Demonstrate technologies on-farms.
