Description

Community of Practice: Climate-Smart Dairy and Grassland Advisory in Northwest Germany

Our CoP brings together a network of professional advisors from grassland, dairy, and specialized agricultural consulting to collaboratively enhance climate-smart advisory capacity. Over a two-year period, members will engage in peer-to-peer learning, knowledge exchange, and joint development of practical solutions for climate-efficient milk production and grassland management.

Through regular meetings, workshops, and field visits, the CoP will:

  • Share experiences and best practices in climate-smart advisory.
  • Develop and test innovative management approaches for grassland-based dairy systems.
  • Explore methods to optimize farm operations for climate resilience and sustainability.

By fostering collaboration and practical learning, our CoP aims to equip advisors with the tools and insights needed to support farmers in implementing climate-smart practices, enhancing both environmental outcomes and farm productivity. The ultimate impact is a stronger advisory community capable of driving sustainable change in Northwest Germany’s grassland and dairy sectors.

Objectives

The Community of Practice (CoP) “Klimaeffiziente Milcherzeugung und Rinderhaltung in grünlandstarken Regionen” aims to:

  1. Strengthen climate-smart advisory skills: Enable advisors in grassland and dairy farming to integrate climate mitigation and adaptation strategies into their consulting practice.
  2. Promote peer-to-peer learning: Facilitate structured exchange of practical experiences, lessons learned, and innovative methods among advisors.
  3. Develop practical solutions: Co-create advisory tools, management approaches, and operational strategies that support climate-efficient milk production and sustainable grassland management.
  4. Test and refine interventions: Pilot climate-smart advisory methods and farm-level measures to ensure they are applicable and effective in local contexts.
  5. Disseminate knowledge: Share insights and successful approaches within the advisory community and beyond, fostering broader uptake of climate-smart farming practices.

Link to Climate Smart Advisory: The CoP directly contributes to climate-smart advisory by equipping advisors with the knowledge, methods, and networks needed to support farmers in reducing emissions, adapting to climate risks, and enhancing sustainability on grassland-dominated farms.
