Description

The main objectives of our CoP will be find solutions and good practice in animal production that improve climate conditions while maintaining consistent productivity and profitability.

The most important goal will be to identify good breeding practices and disseminate them to other interested farmers.

Objectives

Pro-environmental actions (practices) in animal production

As Cop we will be working on:

  • Animal Welfare: Providing animals with conditions that meet their natural behavioral needs, reducing stress and disease (including reducing antibiotic use and preventing antibiotic resistance).
  • Nutrition Optimization: Adjusting feed to reduce methane emissions (in the case of ruminants) and nitrogen and phosphorus in excrements.
  • Rational Fertilizer Management: Proper use of manure and slurry as natural fertilizers.
  • Pasture Grazing: Keeping animals on pastures, which promotes biodiversity, protects soil, and is the cheapest form of nutrition (reducing production costs).
  • Feed Self-Sufficiency: Striving to produce feed on-farm, which shortens supply chains and reduces carbon footprint.
