This Community of Practice (CoP) brings together water management experts, agricultural advisors, practitioners and policy stakeholders to strengthen the role of water-smart solutions in climate-smart agriculture, with a strong focus on the Polish context.
The main objective of the CoP is to build capacity for climate-smart advisory services by improving knowledge, skills and collaboration at the interface of water management, farming practices and climate adaptation. The CoP creates a space for peer learning, exchange of practical experience and co-creation of solutions that help advisors better support farmers in managing water under increasing climate pressure.
Through regular knowledge exchange, case studies and problem-solving discussions, the CoP promotes sustainable on-farm water practices, such as retention, efficient irrigation, soil moisture conservation and nature-based solutions. It also helps translate water and climate policies into actionable guidance for advisors and farmers.
The overarching intent of the CoP is to increase the resilience of agricultural systems to droughts, floods and extreme rainfall, while supporting long-term sustainability of water resources. By strengthening connections between water management and climate-smart advisory, the CoP aims to contribute to more informed decision-making, improved advisory quality and wider uptake of climate-smart farming practices.

Build a shared understanding of how water availability, quality and risk affect climate-smart agricultural practices and advisory services.
Support climate-smart advisory services
Equip advisors with practical knowledge, tools and examples to help farmers improve water efficiency, soil moisture management and on-farm resilience.
Promote sustainable on-farm water practices
Exchange and scale practices such as retention, efficient irrigation, soil water conservation, nature-based solutions and water reuse in agriculture.
Improve adaptation to climate risks
Address droughts, floods and extreme rainfall by linking water management planning with climate-smart farm decision-making.
Bridge policy, science and practice
Connect water governance, agricultural policy and on-the-ground advisory work to ensure coherence and practical relevance.
Facilitate peer learning and innovation
Enable advisors, practitioners and experts to share case studies, lessons learned and tested solutions from the Polish context.
Build long-term capacity and collaboration
